In many theory books on dog behaviour, you will find the idea that dogs think that us humans are members of thir own species. Not so! Of course, our dogs will treat us like a dog, but that is simply because they do not know any other ways of communicating. How can you tell that dogs don’t think we are also dogs? Well, when you’re walking your dog and he or she spots another dog, simply watch the excited reactions. Would the dog rect the same way when it spots any old human? No way! Your dog reserves enthusiasm for other dogs and human members of its own pack.
